34 Clubs &  Organisations receive €22,795 Return to Sport funding from Mayo Sports Partnership

At a recent Mayo Sports Partnership Committee meeting €22,795 was allocated to 34 clubs / organisations in Mayo through the Partnerships 20201 Return to Sport & Volunteer Support grant scheme supported by Sport Ireland and the Dormant Account Board.

Chairman of the Partnership Cllr Michael Loftus recognised that sports clubs and groups need support in their return to sport / physical activity.

“Its been a tough 18 months for grassroot sport throughout the county. Mayo Sports Partnership is delighted to assist all groups who applied to the 2021 scheme and we plan to support those clubs & groups who have yet to return to sport through a 2nd round of COVID19 funding in the Autumn. Indoor sports will be a specific group we would be aiming at. ” Cllr Loftus stated.

On behalf of Mayo Sports Partnership I would like to thank Sport Ireland for providing the funding for this initiative and also to Mayo County Council for all their support” Loftus added.

This year the scheme has funded initiatives including additional mothers and others programmes in Ladies GAA, Swinford Triathlon Club, reactivation of hurling  club in Ballina, tennis and Sports Inclusion initiatives in Ballyvary  FC Castlebar Rugby Club, Claremorris Swimming Club. Volunteer supports have included coaching courses in , kayaking, rugby, tennis, rowing and first aid / CPR courses.

 “There will be quite a lot of challenges for sport in the coming months but Mayo Sports Partnership are here to help in whatever way we can. Mayo Sports Partnership comprises of representatives from local agencies, sports organisations and community representatives, is core funded by Sport Ireland and is hosted locally by Mayo County Council.  

 

Currently Mayo Sports Partnership is promoting a HER Outdoors Campaign from the 9th – 15th August. HER Outdoors Week is an opportunity to re-ignite and re-introduce females to the power of outdoor sports. This week will be a first of it's kind in Ireland and is an opportunity for ALL females to escape to the outdoors and try something new. A full directory of events will be available at www.mayo.ie/sportspartnership Bookings will need to be done through the provider.
